Pittsburgh Penguins' Sidney Crosby's Concussion Saga Deepening with Neck Injury: Fan Take

Pittsburgh PenguinsSidney Crosby’s concussion saga seems to be never-ending. To add to this saga, it is now being said that Crosby has a soft tissue injury in his neck. While the injury is considered treatable, it is not yet known when it occurred.

“From what I’ve been told, this is something pretty commonly linked with concussion symptoms and, in a way, that’s encouraging. There’s no magic to get rid of it, but if this is contributing, this is something we can obviously treat and work on, and hopefully it will go away. He’s a hockey player and wants to play hockey, and he sought out other medical treatment to get back to playing the game – and hopefully, through his efforts, this is going to happen soon,” said Ray Shero, Penguins GM.

So, things are encouraging and people are “hoping” things. This is the gist of Shero’s statement and it really tells us nothing. Crosby is not at the stage he wants to be in rehabilitating from his injuries. He has no clue about when he may return. He continues to skate, but this is about as far as he can go.

Why wasn’t the neck injury noticed when Crosby was initially evaluated for his most recent concussion? Is this neck injury from a previous concussion? These are the questions that doctors are currently trying to answer, but so far cannot.

Crosby is still having concussion-like symptoms. This newly-discovered injury could possibly contribute to issues and Crosby has had consultations with multiple doctors. To fully treat him right now, they need to fully understand his injuries.

At this point, it is unknown when Crosby will return to full play. It is evident that things are not going as planned for him and that he is going to need more time than anticipated to fully recover. The Penguins are not doing so hot, but it is more important that Crosby – and the other injured players – fully heal and then the team can get ready for next season if this is what it takes to have everyone healthy and at 100 percent.
