The 17-year-old cornerback was injured during a block near the end of the first quarter of the game against Covington’s Holy Cross High School.

Wesselman said Mingie was briefly knocked unconscious by the hit, but he regained consciousness on the field. He was transported to an Owenton hospital and then flown to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, which kept him overnight.

Mingie was released from Children’s early Saturday afternoon and is now home recovering, Wesselman said.

Holy Cross defeated Owen County 45-0 to advance to the Class 2A quarterfinals next Friday.
