Concussion shelves Stanford WR Owusu

Stanford wide receiver Chris Owusu has been ruled out of this Saturday’s game against Oregon as he recovers from his latest concussion – an ailment that could keep him on the sidelines for a while.

Stanford coach David Shaw says the team is monitoring Owusu’s progress after he suffered what is thought to be his third concussion in 13 months. He was removed from the field on a stretcher last Saturday after connecting helmet to helmet with Oregon State’s Jordan Poyer in a 38-13 Cardinal win.
It was the second time in a week that Owusu had taken a hard hit to the head. He was leveled by Southern California’s T.J. MacDonald on Oct. 29, a hit that earned McDonald a half-game suspension.
His absence for No. 3 Stanford (9-0, 7-0 Pac 12) against the sixth-ranked Ducks (8-1, 6-0 Pac 12) could be a big one. His numbers are modest – he has 35 receptions for 376 yards and two touchdowns so far – but when healthy, he’s one of the Cardinal’s top receiving options.
Saturday’s contest represents the first time two top-10 teams have faced off at Stanford.
