Concussion has Vick’s status uncertain (AP)

PHILADELPHIA (AP)—Michael Vick’s(notes) status for the Eagles’ next game is
uncertain because of a concussion sustained in Sunday night’s 35-31 loss at
Atlanta.

Eagles head athletic trainer Rick Burkholder says Vick was “very far
along” on the plane ride to Philadelphia, but he wouldn’t give a timetable for
his return.

Vick told teammates he wanted to get back in the game. But Burkholder says
the team “acted on a side of caution” by keeping him out.

Vick must pass several tests and be evaluated by an independent neurologist
before he can be cleared to return. The Pro Bowl quarterback had thrown for two
touchdowns and the Eagles were winning when he left.

Vick was injured when he was spun around by a defender and slammed into
right tackle Todd Herremans(notes).

Coach Andy Reid wouldn’t say whether Mike Kafka(notes) or Vince Young(notes) would start
if Vick can’t play against the New York Giants in the Eagles’ home opener on
Sunday. Kafka played well in his NFL debut against the Falcons.
