Jason Bay back in Dodger Stadium nearly a year after concussion

Jason Bay says Dodger Stadium is “just another ballpark” to him, even though it’s where he suffered a concussion that kept him out of action the final two months of last season.

Bay is back in Los Angeles this week as the New York Mets play a four-game series with the Dodgers.

Last July, Bay crashed into the left-field fence while chasing down a fly ball and suffered a whiplash-type injury. He told reporters Monday that he felt the effects for the remainder of the series as he continued to play.

“Before the (next) game, I kind of felt a little groggy and had a headache, but I had ran into the wall the night before, so it was kind of to be expected,” he said, according to ESPNNewYork.com. “After the game the headache was worse. It was a day game, but I was really tired.”

On the cross-country flight after the series, Bay began to experience the concussion symptoms that would end his season. He told reporters he had no problems making that trip.

Bay says the attention and treatment he received for the concussion dwarfed what he once experienced as a youth player.

“I remember (when) I was 16, I got drilled in the head,” Bay said, according to ESPNNewYork.com. “They pulled me off and I just sat on the bench and I just stared at the ground for three innings, they said.”
